Bold-hearted young filmmakers make waves in Sinepiyu 17

Feature art by Abigail Manaluz

Sinepiyu 17, the premier film festival of Far Eastern University, showcased the bold storytelling hearts of this young generation’s up-and-coming filmmakers.

With the theme “GIMIK - Isigaw ang Puso,” a callback to the effervescent era of the ‘90s, over 30 student-produced short films competed in the All Tamaraws and Interschool divisions, with the screenings and talkbacks taking place on campus.

Acclaimed filmmaker and “certified cool kid” Glenn Barit was also present to discuss his beloved ode to early 2000s Filipino academia, Cleaners.

After more than a week of screenings and activities, the film festival concluded with the awarding ceremonies on May 9.

For the All Tamaraws division, Zig Dulay, Pepe Diokno and Toni Go served as the board of judges. Meanwhile, Arvin Belarmino, Mica Oliveros, Bryan Kristoffer J. Brazil, Alex Poblete, Stephen Lopez, and Barit comprised the board for the Interschool division.
