The 16th Binisaya International Film Festival is doing something quietly radical. It is changing the idea of what a film festival and even the act of watching a film is supposed to be.

Rooted in Ilocano life and personal experience, Zechri Jacob Alvarez’s social magic realist drama explores the lengths we stretch ourselves for the people we love.

Premiering on September 18–26 at Red Carpet Cinema 1, Shangri-La Plaza, and Cinematheque Centers in Manila, Iloilo, Davao, and Negros, ‘Titser, titser!’ puts the power of friendship and the love for the arts at center stage. The film blends nostalgia, high school humor, band antics, and mixed media animation as it captures the restless energy of youth while shining a light on the struggles that students and teachers face due to the lack of institutional support. 

For a grieving family, securing documents can become another burden. A reality explored in the narrative short film titled Nakabinbin, where a widowed father must secure a death certificate to bury his daughter.

Nang Matakasan ang Tagay makes its world premiere at the Puregold Cinepanalo Film Festival. Through meticulous storytelling and grounded performances, the film invites audiences to question the patriarchal structures imposed on us and to empathize with the story of a father and son.

Being the first ever musical film entry in what is the most known platform for budding filmmakers, Piyesa is a warm, pulsing coming-of-age tale of losing voices and definitive decisions during life’s important transitory periods. Written and directed by Ryand Angelo Ugalde, the film joins the other entries for this year’s FDCP Sine Kabataan Film Festival, and is set to premiere this coming September 2026.

Ten original short films have been selected for the inaugural Panorama Shorts Section of the 2026 Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival, with all ten primed for showing on the big screen this September. 

Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival 2026 has unveiled the official posters of its seven full-length films, giving audiences a foretaste of the distinct worlds, characters, and stories set to hit the big screen. As the much-awaited festival draws near, the reveal provides a preview of what festival goers may expect from its latest selection: from magical journeys and supernatural encounters to coming-of-age stories, and from quiet reflections on grief and loss to a romance that straddles the realms of the living and the dead. 

Hindi Pa Nag-aagahan si Tau is a short coming-of-age story about Tau, a chubby nine-year-old boy who dreams of fitting in. When he learns that he must fit into his string bean costume for his school’s Nutrition Month performance, Tau embarks on a journey to lose weight. Along the way, he navigates body image, friendship, and belonging, only to discover that the acceptance he longs for comes at the cost of becoming something else.

The Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival and Ayala Malls Cinemas have announced an official partnership whereby Ayala Malls Cinemas will be showcasing all of the featured works of the 2026 CinePanalo in select theatres. The partnership is an unprecedented move, and a show of commitment by Puregold to make the upcoming third-ever CinePanalo the biggest and best edition of the festival yet.

For its homecoming, Sundance-winner Berlinale-starrer Filipiñana will be the closing film of the Cinemalaya Film Festival on August 16 at Shanrgila Plaza Red Carpet Cinemas. 

It will then have its limited theatrical run exclusively in SM Cinemas August 26 onwards, via Southeast Asian distributor Abnormal Studios, a subsidiary of Westec Media Limited. Abnormal Studios distributed How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies.

This July, the CCP Channel features select productions from the Virgin Labfest (VLF), the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival, and the 37th Gawad CCP Para sa Alternatibong Pelikula at Video. Covering different themes and storytelling styles that offer the opportunity to experience stories that reflect the realities, struggles, and aspirations of Filipinos across generations.

With only days remaining before the submission deadline, the Film Academy of the Philippines is reminding Filipino filmmakers and producers to submit their eligible films for consideration as the country's official entry to the 99th Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category.

Samar, the third-largest island in the Philippines, has long been a wellspring of stories, traditions, and voices waiting to be heard beyond its shores. Bringing one of these to a wider audience is Yada Na Ta Busag Nga Vannn! (English title: Here Comes the White Vannn!), an official entry of SineKabataan 2026 that reimagines one of the Philippines’ most persistent urban legends through dark comedy and a distinctly Waray lens.
