ABOUT US

SINEGANG.ph is a publication of young Filipino cinephiles who are passionate in consuming media and initiating discussions. Aside from being a publication website for film and TV reviews and features, SINEGANG.ph is also a trusted source of entertainment news in the Philippines. Founded on August 2020 as a film clique for Letterboxd users, the collective has since then branched out towards bigger platforms to reach a wider audience with shared interests and pursuits in the realm of film and other media.

History

SINEGANG started when our founders, Hannah Gagalac and Joaquin Saavedra, drew inspiration from Marseline’s (@selineabanto) tweet, stating:

Concept: a group of Filipinos who talk about movies //
group name: sinegang

The two expressed intentions of starting a similar community before, and on August 9, 2020, they created a Twitter group conversation of fourteen (14) Filipino members. Hours after everyone had acquainted each other, SINEGANG.ph immediately migrated to Discord, where they created their own server. The humble beginnings of the collective revolved around talking about various films, television, music and video games, and conducting game nights that will test the members’ knowledge. The collective also started a program called SINEGANG Weekly Picks, where one member per week is given the opportunity to pick a film that everyone is encouraged to watch and join in discussing at the end of the period.

On February 21, 2021, SINEGANG.ph finally launched their website and official social media pages headed by Allain Brutas, initially focusing on publishing reviews and features to reach a wider audience. They slowly ventured towards becoming a news and media source, using Riane Oquiza’s words for their tagline, “it’s not food, it’s SINEGANG.” Since then, the publication has been eager in sharing their love and knowledge on different forms of media to the Philippines and to the world.
