Independent film powerhouse 901 Studios continues its commitment to groundbreaking storytelling by supporting Giya Studios and Gate 11 Collective to bring two highly anticipated features to this year's Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival. Padamlagan, a Giya Studios production, and The Next 24 Hours, a Gate 11 Collective production. This collaboration reinforces 901 Studio's dedication to artistic integrity and promises to captivate audiences with two distinct and compelling cinematic experiences.

901 Studios' recent successes, Agapito and Lip Sync Assassin, have been the talk of the town, proving that powerful stories resonate both locally and on a global scale. Agapito earned critical acclaim at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival and went on to secure an Honorable Mention for Best International Short Film at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival. Not to be outdone, Lip Sync Assassin slayed the competition at the Cine Pride Film Festival in Los Angeles, where director Jon Galvez took home the Best Director Award and lead star Precious Paula Nicole was honored with Best Lead Performance. These accolades aren't just for the trophy case; they're a testament to 901 Studios' ability to produce films that challenge conventions and captivate audiences.

Gaya Studios, in co-production with 901 Studios, presents Padamlagan, directed by the regional filmmaker and film professor Jenn Romano. Padamlagan stars iconic Eraserheads frontman Ely Buendia in a career-defining role as Doring, a quiet voyador whose world is shattered by the Colgante Bridge collapse in Naga. Set just days before the declaration of Martial Law, the film follows Doring’s desperate search for his son, who was among the victims. Buendia's portrayal promises to be a departure from his musical persona, showcasing a raw and emotional performance that delves deeply into a dark chapter of Philippine history. Padamlagan isn't just a movie; it’s a gripping tale of loss, resilience, and a father's unwavering love against a backdrop of national turmoil.

Also premiering at this year’s Cinemalaya in the short film competition is the poignant and timely drama The Next 24 Hours, helmed by the acclaimed Carl Joseph Papa. Produced by Gate 11 Collective with the support of 901 Studios, this film centers on Sheila, a twenty-nine-year-old woman grappling with the aftermath of sexual assault. This powerful narrative tells the story of Sheila’s harrowing journey as she fights to reclaim her life and identity. The film doesn’t shy away from the harsh realities she faces—navigating a detached healthcare system, hiding her trauma from colleagues at work, and resisting the manipulative advances of her assailant. The Next 24 Hours is a brave and essential film that tackles a difficult subject with sensitivity and unflinching honesty, offering a crucial look into a survivor’s struggle for control and healing.

By co-producing Padamlagan and The Next 24 Hours, 901 Studios is once again demonstrating its commitment to pushing cinematic boundaries and championing unique, compelling voices. Their track record speaks for itself, and these two new film collaborations are poised to continue that legacy. Both are among the ten films selected for the prestigious main competition at Cinemalaya 2025, now in its 21st edition of showcasing the best of independent Filipino cinema.

Cinemalaya 2025 is slated to run from October 3rd to 12th. Film buffs and cinema lovers can catch these two incredible films and the rest of the lineup at Shangri-La Plaza Cinemas in Mandaluyong City, as well as select Ayala Malls cinemas, including Manila Bay, Circuit, Market! Market!, U.P. Town Center, and Gateway Mall. Don't miss the chance to see why 901 Studios is quickly becoming the name to know in quality independent film.
