Award-winning Japanese and Filipino films will take center stage in Iloilo City as the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) and The Japan Foundation, Manila (JFM) present places, pieces, a three-day cultural film program from August 28 to 30, 2026, at Festive Walk Mall Cinemas.
Developed through the First Draft Programming Workshop, an initiative of The Japan Foundation that brings together emerging film programmers from across Asia, places, pieces presents a thoughtfully curated selection of Japanese and Filipino films.
Centered on the concept of place identity, the program explores how landscapes, communities, traditions, and shared histories shape personal and collective identities. Through a carefully curated lineup of Japanese and Filipino films, it invites audiences to reflect on the places they go home to, remember, leave behind, and return to.

More than a film exhibition, places, pieces serve as a platform for cultural exchange between the Philippines and Japan. Through screenings, talkback sessions, and educational activities, the program seeks to foster dialogue among filmmakers, artists, students, and audiences while encouraging a deeper appreciation of cinema as a medium for cultural understanding and community engagement.
The project is made possible through the partnership of the Film Development Council of the Philippines and The Japan Foundation, Manila, with the support of Megaworld Cinemas, Festive Walk Cinemas Iloilo, the Department of Tourism Region VI, and the Iloilo City Government, reinforcing Iloilo City's growing role as one of the country's emerging centers for arts, culture, and cinema.
