Jeremy Mayores, a Filipino performing artist and actor steadily gaining international recognition, marks a defining moment in his career as he takes on the lead role in an upcoming international short film currently in production in Taiwan. Known for his compelling performances in Agapito, Ang Halikan Sa Water Fountain, Kung Ang Ulan, Indigo, Tara? Takbo!, and Panulukan, Mayores has built a body of work defined by emotional depth, discipline, and a strong connection to narrative storytelling.
Now based in Taiwan for the duration of the shoot, Jeremy Mayores represents the Philippines on a global platform, leading a cross-cultural production that bridges Southeast Asian artistry and international cinema. The project is produced by Unseen Film Studios Taiwan and directed by Sun Chieh-Heng, a renowned filmmaker based in Kaohsiung, known for his distinct visual language and contemplative approach to storytelling.
The film draws inspiration from the acclaimed Taiwanese novel The Man with the Compound Eyes, a work celebrated for its poetic exploration of humanity’s relationship with nature. This adaptation places particular focus on Atile’i, the novel’s first central figure—a “Second Son” and the chosen one of his people, bound by tradition to fulfill a sacred yet tragic destiny. His journey toward the sea, shaped by sacrifice and inevitability, becomes a powerful meditation on fate, identity, and survival. Through Atile’i’s story, the narrative unfolds as both an intimate character study and a larger reflection on ecological fragility and interconnected lives.
As production continues, the film positions itself as a culturally significant work that merges literature, cinema, and environmental consciousness. Mayores’ involvement signals not only a personal artistic breakthrough but also a meaningful representation of Filipino talent in international filmmaking. With a story rooted in Southeast Asian perspectives yet resonant on a global scale, the project is already generating anticipation within both regional and international film communities.
