Dulaang Sibol to stage ‘Sinta’ to celebrate the musical’s 50th anniversary

DULAANG SIBOL presents the 50th anniversary presentation of its beloved musical Sinta, with public performances on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from August 21 to 30 at the Tanghalang Onofre Pagsanghan of Ateneo de Manila High School. Tickets are priced at Php 500.00 and are available atbit.ly/WatchSinta2026

Sinta was first presented as a two-act show when Dulaang Sibol’s theater was inaugurated on August 14, 1976. Widely considered as the country’s longest-running musical, it has been staged by the group almost every year for the past half-century. The musical’s book and lyrics are by Onofre R. Pagsanghan, legendary high school teacher at the Ateneo and Gawad Buhay Lifetime Achievement awardee.

The late National Artist Bienvenido Lumbera has described Sinta as “a story of young love told in verse and song, steeped in nostalgia for simpler times.” This anniversary production invites audiences, old and new, to join the celebration: Alalahanin, gunitain. Limampung taon nati’y sariwain.

The anniversary presentation caps a lineage over 70 years in the making: founded as the Ateneo High School Dramatics Society in 1955; the group adopted its Filipino name, Dulaang Sibol, 60 years ago; and inaugurated the very theater it performs in today 50 years ago  — the same year Sinta was born.

Fittingly, the anniversary run brings home proud alumni from across the decades — surgeons, aspiring surgeons, lawyers, law students, aspiring engineers, aspiring designers, professors, photographers, writers, and entrepreneurs — all fumbling theater artists once more, back under the direction of Giancarlo Abrahan, who most recently won Best Director at this year's Cinemalaya Film Festival. Sinta endures as the living archive of a community that keeps returning to stage it, year after year, to audiences who keep returning to this humble theater.
