Last year saw the Philippine Premiere of Poor Things at the QCinema 2023 as the festival’s opening film. Yesterday, February 14, 2024, Searchlight Pictures' latest dark comedy, Poor Things returned to Philippine cinemas with a nationwide release and promises to be an amazing Valentine's Day celebration.

The critically acclaimed cinematic gem has recently won the Golden Globe Awards for Best Motion Picture and Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture for Emma Stone. It has also received 11 Academy Award nominations for 2024, including Best Picture, Best Director for Yorgos Lanthimos, Best Actress for Emma Stone, Best Adapted Screenplay, in addition to its 11 British Academy Film Awards nominations.

The film consists outstanding ensemble cast featuring Emma Stone as the lead, Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, Ramy Youssef, Christopher Abbott, and Jerrod Carmichael. Adapted from Alasdair Gray's acclaimed novel, Poor Things follows the magical transformation of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman who has been resurrected back to life. She finds herself sheltered by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (played by Dafoe) in this Victorian-era Glasgow setting. Eager to embrace knowledge and discover new things, she enthusiastically embarks on a fast-paced, cross-continental journey with charismatic and indulgent lawyer Duncan Wedderburn (played by Ruffalo).

Poor Things explores the nature of humanity by blending a unique mix of drama, romance, and dark comedy. It asks viewers to reflect on the complexities of self-discovery, unconventional relationships, and the passionate desire to break down boundaries and shatter the glass ceiling.
